Double-double・「ダブル・ダブル」

先々週の木曜日。４月２６日。バンクーバー空港に始めて車で到着。Yさんが成田空港からのエア・カナダ航空に乗っていた。私はー時間ぐらい早かったので待つところの席がまだいっぱいあいていた。

A couple of weeks ago I headed to the Vancouver Airport to pick up a friend visiting from Japan. I was a bit early so settled down into comfy chairs with a book.

２年ぶりにYさんに会った。うれしくてしょうがなかったけどすごーく疲れた。元気が出せるためのエネルギーが必要と思ってTim Horton'sに一緒に行った！行ったら彼女が「ダッブル・ダッブル」という言葉を教えてくれた。Tim Horton'sでこーヒーを飲むカナダ人がよく言う言葉だそうです。「ダッブル・クリームとダッブル・シュガーのコーヒー」だって。私はコーヒーに砂糖は要らないけどメープル・ドーナツを注文した。 I hadn't seen Y in over two years so it was great (if a bit weird) to see her in Canada. I was exhausted from too little sleep to headed to Tim Horton's. That's when she taught me Double-Double, the Canadian way of ordering coffee. I don't take sugar in my coffee but I am not averse to a bit on the side. Particularly if it is maple-covered.
