引っ越します！Moving!!

今日、新しいアパートが決まりました。仕事場の近くに引っ越します。５月１日から新しいところに住む予定で、先ほど今の大矢さんに連絡しました。今のアパートが大好きだけど仕事まで片道一時間かかってしまう。それとも車で出勤するのでストレスが信じられないほどたまってしまう。新しいところは広くて、バンクーバーに近いし観光客にいいと思う。遊びに着てよ！お待ちしています！

Today, we received word that we were accepted to live in a new apartment close to work. We take occupancy from May 1st and just let our current landlord know the news. We really like the place we live now but it takes an hour to get to work and the driving stress is ridiculous. So we are moving. The new place is big and close to Vancouver so come play!!! We are waiting!

Time to diet・ダイエットしなきゃ

昨日、バンクーバー島から帰ってきた。美味しいものをたくさん食べたので今日からダイエット。まあ。。。明日からかな。。。We got back from Vancouver Island yesterday. We ate tonnes of great food while we were there--so much so that it is diet time....maybe tomorrow...

ビクトリア市に・In Victoria

This weekend, we were in Victoria. It is the capital city of British Columbia and the biggest city on Vancouver Island. 今週末、ビクトリア市にいた。ブリティッシュ・コランビア州の首都で、バンクーバー島の一番大きい市です。

This is the view from our hotel room...ホテルの部屋からの景色。

 浴室においてあるもの。緑と紫でちょうどいいで～す！ The amenities in the bathroom are purple and green--perfect!

近くの州議会を見学した。We took a tour of the Provincial Legislature buildings.

すばらしいカヌーも拝見した。There is a great canoe in the main Rotunda. 

夕飯は友達が進めてくれたイタリア料理の「パグリアッチーズ」。Dinner was at Pagliacci's, a delightful Italian restaurant recommended to us by a friend who used to live in Victoria.

バンクーバー島へ・To Vancouver Island

Yesterday we voyaged to Vancouver Island! We left home and drove about 30 minutes to the nearby ferry terminal, where we picked up tickets to the island. 昨日、バンクーバー島の旅に出た。車に乗って、家から30分離れているフェリー・ターミナルで切符を買った。

We hung out in the terminal enjoying the interesting stores until the ferry left.  それで、ターミナル内のお店を楽しめた。クッキーすごくない？ How great are these cookies?

And these toffee apples? Brilliant!  リンゴあめがすばらしい形になっている！

We drove on the ferry at 10:45. １０：４５時にフェリーに乗った。

And the ferry left at 11am, bound for the island! 11時に島行きのフェリーが出発！

今日からここへ・Heading here today

L doesn't know yet we are heading to Victoria on Vancouver Island for the weekend. We are spending two nights there to celebrate our 7th anniversary. Neither of us have been there so it should be fun! Lはまだ知らないけど今日からバンクーバー島に行きます。二泊、ビクトーリア市にすごします。結婚記念日、7年目なので、二人まだ行っていないところに行こうと思った。行ってきまーーーす！

Jalapeno-shaped cookies! ハラペニョ形クッキー

This week, L had a Mexico food fest at her office and someone brought in these great cookies.

 この間、Lの仕事場でメキシコ料理パーティーがあった。一人がこのクッキーを持ってきた。

She only brought me these, though...

カナダのポスト・Canadian mailboxes!

Every country has different mailboxes. I think the Canadian ones are pretty interesting--with lots of postal codes and lots of colours.　国々のポストはやっぱりさまざまです。カナダのはカラフルで郵便番号がいろいろ書いてあって面白いと思う。電子メールがあるのでポストはあまり使わないなー。With email, I don't use post boxes so much any more...pity...

うどんの日・Day of Udon

A bunch of us recently went to the Nikkei Seniors Home in Burnaby (close to work) for a lovely lunch. この間ここに行って、日本食を楽しめた。仕事から１０分ぐらいドライブすれば到着します。老人ホームにある食堂でお昼が信じられないほど美味しいです。

I had the Genki Udon. 私は「元気うどん」を注文して、美味しいうどんが超久しぶりだった。

And I got home to this fabulous meal--what a perfect day! それで、帰ってくるとLがうどんを作ってくれた！うれしかった！！

Beer and Burlesque・ビールとバーレスク

After the Spirit Awards, we went out for beer and burlesque. The beer was a great variety--a lot from Oregon...スピリット賞の後バンクーバーのパッブに行った。オレゴンビールもあった。

それで、バーレスクダンスもあった。実は一緒に仕事している人がやっていて、応援しに行った。And the burlesque was a co-worker...she is a great dancer.

Spirit Awards・スピリット賞

This past Thursday, I volunteered at the Spirit Awards. They are put on every year by my workplace to thank donors. I helped out in the beginning and then was lucky enough to enjoy a delightful dinner. 今週の木曜日、スピリット賞に参加した。寄付してくれたドナーたちへの感謝イベントで、仕事している団体が毎年やっている。イベントの前、ボランティアー活動をやっていて、その後皆とゴージャスな夕飯を楽しめた。This is the red carpet at the entrance of the event. 入るところの赤いじゅうたんです。

Valentine's frog...ヴァレンタイン蛙

I completely forgot to upload this last month on Valentine's day. Oh well--how about in time for White Day? いやだ。。。投稿すっかり忘れた！バレンタイン・デーに投稿しようとしていた！この間見つけて、写真を撮った！ワイと・デーに間に合った！　可愛くない？

お尻がなに？Active what?

この間ワシントン州で買い物をしていたときに見た看板です。「お尻がアクティブ」で分かればちょっと変じゃない？ほかの意味は「運動のためのパンツ」のような意味。どういってもおかしいと思う！お尻がアクティブで見ると笑う。I had to post this sign I saw in Bellingham, Washington one weekend--too funny to pass up.

Lunch and dinner・昼食と夕食

この間食べたランチはスープとサラダでとても健康的。I figured it was time for a food post...some things eaten recently include soup, salad, and breadsticks at Olive Garden.

夕飯は明太子うどん。見た目はいいけど味はちょっと。And then dinner was mentaiko udon. It looks good but the taste was...lacking...

天ぷらもあって、うどんよりは美味しかった。The tempura was pretty good (much better than the udon!)

子供いなくても楽しい・Fun even without kids

We went to see a movie yesterday--but not one we expected. We had wanted to see the Hobbit but I didn't fancy it in 3D because I seem to get seasick with those glasses (will wait for upgraded technology). So we looked around and went to Wreck-it Ralph. It was great--especially for people who played video games in the 80s...really fun movie and made me want to come home and play Mario Kart! 昨日、また映画を見に行った。「ホビット　思いがけない冒険」を見に行きたかったけど３Dバージョンしかなかった。年かもしれないけど３Dはどうしてもいやです。前の経験はまったく楽しくなかったのでまた試してみる勇気はちっともない。アバターを３Dでみて、船酔い（ふなよい）になちゃって気分が悪くなった。だからホビットをやめた。映画がどうしても見に行きたかったのでこれにした。８０年代にゲームを楽しんだ大人にもいい映画だと思う。Lでも楽しんだ！マリオ・カートやろう！！！

最近の気持ち・My feelings recently...

最近はちょっと変な気持ちがメインです。人生のコントロールはすごく足りない。働きすぎか、不眠症のセイか、冬の影響か分からないけど人生のバランスはよくないと思う。これからコントロールを取り戻そうとしている。がんばります！

I've been feeling a bit out of whack recently. I am not sure if I am working too hard or sleeping too little or if it is simply part of dealing with a long winter. Either way I feel unbalanced and like things are out of control. This week I aim to take back that control. Wish me luck!

チューリップ・Tulips

My delightful boss came in with tulips for me the other day--to celebrate spring and the proper start of my new job. They really brightened up my office.  
この間、ボスがチューリップをくれた。なぜかというと春の初めや新しい仕事がやっと終わったからです。明るいよね！

I just found these photos from a few years ago in Eugene. That is what spring looks like on the UO campus...how lovely...ユージーンの写真、久しぶり！この間見つけた。オレゴン大学で勉強していたときの写真で、懐かしいね！

ミネソタ州経由・In Minnesota briefly

We had a brief 50-minute stopover in Minnesota on the way back from Miami. No time to do anything but run across the airport to catch our next plane but I did take this snap. Seems like an interesting state--will DEFINITELY be back to visit a friend sometime soon.
マイアミから帰りのルートはミネソタにもちょっと寄った。空港に５０分もなかったけど子の写真取れた。ミネソタ州ってやっぱり面白いね。戻らなきゃ！

Google Doodle--Miriam Makeba

I love today's Google Doodle--celebrating what would have been the 81st birthday of Miriam Makeba. Miriam Makeba was a South African singer and political activist who was perhaps most famous for  Qongqothwane, or "The Click Song"

アトランタ空港経由・Stopover in Atlanta

I am done with  Miami photos--but these are part of the trip back. We stopped to change planes in Atlanta and Minnesota and had enough time in Atlanta for a lovely lunch. They had really interesting food there: we had fried pickles and a fried-green-tomato-peach-cheese-salad to start. It was delightful! マイアミの写真が残念ながら終わっている。帰りの経由はアトランタとミネアポリスだった。ランチはアトランタで済まして、面白い食べ物です。ジョージア州は桃で有名で、ほとんどの食べ物に入っているようです。上はフライのピクルスで下は面白いサラダ。ピーチ、レタスやチーズが入っているけど一番面白いのはフライ・グリーン・トマトです。美味しかった！

Then came a burger with peach, fried egg, and an onion ring! With yam fries on the side..diiiiiivine! これは桃や卵の入っているバーガーです。フライはポテトじゃなくて、ヤムのです。甘くて美味しい！

Atlanta airport has a permanent exhibition of sculptures by Zimbabwean artists, which were wonderful. I got a bit homesick for South Africa and that part of the world. The pieces were really good. アトランタ空港は面白い美術展覧会があった。ジンバブウェーの彫刻家（ちょうこくか）のものがザーとならんでいて、経験するのはすばらしかった。南アフリカを懐かしくなった。
