Roasted strawberries? 焼きたてイチゴ？

この間面白いレシピを挑戦した。弟が教えてくれた焼きたてイチゴのレシピでちょっと不安だった。材料はこのとおり。。。(メープルシロップでもいいけどバーチ(カバの木）・シロップをYさんにもらったので使ってみた！）My brother made roasted strawberries a while back and has been raving about them ever since. So I decided to try his recipe. The ingredients are here (you can use maple syrup but I only had original and Birch Syrup--from Y!--so I decided to mix the two.)

After cutting the strawberries into fours, you mix the ingredients and strawberries altogether and lay them out on a baking pan.

イチゴを四つぐらいに切ってから材料とたっぷり混ぜる。

40 minutes in a 350-degree oven and this is what you get.

４０分ぐらい３５０度のオーブンで焼く。

It is a really interesting taste--not very sweet, not very salty, but ALL strawberry! They are great hot or cold...but particularly over ice cream! 味はとても面白い。塩っぽくて、イチゴの味が強い。本当に面白い。暖かくても冷やしてもおいしいです。アイスによく合います！

  追伸：バーチ(カバの木）・シロップっておいしいいいい！

TDLどう思う？ Tokyo Disney--good or bad?

この間このニュースを見て、興味深く読みました。TDLが同性愛者の結婚式を認めたって。Yahoo.co.jpで記事があったけどもうないのでどうしてだろう。

There was some interesting news from Tokyo Disneyland recently. They are going to allow same-sex weddings to take place under a range of conditions. The weddings are just for show and have no basis in law but it might raise some interesting discussions in Japan. Then again, the couples have to dress so they look like a man and a woman, so is it just play acting?

Be'wiched・おいしいサンドイッチ

We checked out a new sandwich place that's about 15 minutes from where we live in Surrey. おいしいサンドイッチのところを見つけた！１５分ぐらい車で行けば目立ったないビルにあります。

メニューが手作りで可愛い。The menu is in chalk up on a blackboard--all very enticing stuff.

Nothing goes better with sandwiches than these...サンドイッチだから飲み物はこれにした。

L had the Reuben...LはReubenで。。。

I had the Monte Cristo...a bit too much meat but I have never had one and it was the recommended sandwich of the day--especially if you have never had one. 私はMonte Cristo.お肉が好きじゃないけどこれがお勧めだって。じゃ。。。時々だけ。。。おいしかった！

Too bad--we were too full for desserts. Next time!

いっぱいになってしまったのでデザートが食べられなかった。今度！！

足がうれしいいいいいい！Happy feet!

This was a delightful gift from a friend--it is called a Cutensil, which is really funny because it is a pretty cute utensil. この間友達からすごーく面白いものをもらった。足用のマッサージ機です。名前がCutensilでCuteとUtensilが合併した言葉ですごいなー！

使ってみると気持ちいい。It is a massage machine for your foot. You put your foot on it for 3 minutes and it gives it a little massage. Delightful!

パソコンの近くにおいてあって毎日使っています。ストレス解消にすばらしいです！ありがとう！I use it every day because it is permanently next to the computer. So long stress, hello Happy Feet!

Chip-cookies・ポテト・チップ・クッキー

Check out the interesting biscuits that L made. She likes salty stuff and I like sweet so this was the compromise: biscuits made with crisps! Lが面白いクッキーを作ってくれた。彼女は塩辛いのが好きで私は甘党。妥協（だきょう）で、彼女はチップ。クッキーを作ってみた。友達のレシピでiPadでチェックした。 The recipe on her iPad--ah, the modern age.

The ingredients are all lined up...材料の準備ができました。

A friend brought back some vanilla beans from Madagascar so they went in the batch. Absolutely delightful stuff! 友達が去年マダガスカル共和国でバニラ豆をお土産で買ってくれたのであれを使った。ちょっと贅沢だけどおいしい。

And in go the chips...はい、チップスが入りまーーす！

They are a strange combination of tastes but absolutely delicious!

朝昼晩の食事・Breakfast lunch dinner

Oh, fine, we are talking about food again. It was a gastronomically fun day so I can't help myself. Breakfast was a rye bread, cheese, onion, egg creation by L. 今日は面白い食べ物を食べたので投稿しようと思った。朝はLがライ麦パン、チーズ、たまねぎと卵の朝食を作ってくれた。なんと言えばいいか分からないけどおいしかった。

 中を見ても面白い。

Washed down wonderfully with iced coffee.

アイスコーヒーも飲んだ。

Lunch was a fish-mayo-salad.

昼食はフィッシュ・マヨ・サラダ。健康的かな。

And for dinner we headed to A&W to try it out. I got a book of coupons in the mail this week so figured, why not? It was a bit of fun and the grandma symbol is pretty fun.

夕飯は初めてA&Wを訪ねた。クーポン券をもらったので使おうかなと思った。意外とおいしかった。で、お祖母ちゃんマークも可愛かった。

Dinner was a shared Mozza burger, apple pie, iced tea, and very healthy fries. Calorie count? Off the chubby charts!

あまり健康ではなかったけど、シェアしたのでそんなに悪くなかった。

And we left nothing...よくがんばりました！

苺・Strawberry time!

It's strawberry season! They're big, they're cheap, and they are ridiculously delicious. (OK, and most of them are from California, but so what?) Anyone have any interesting recipes for strawberries? Speak now...今のイチゴが安くておいしいです。買い物するたびに買っています！何かいい作り方ある？レシピ、募集中！

I had a smoothie yesterday...スムージーは当たり前。。。

One night this week I realised how well white wine goes with strawberries (or anything really)
ワインとよく似合う。。。

And the best dinner of the week came when this idea hit me...
アイスクリームとイチゴをメロンに入れれば、今週の一番おいしい夜食になる！

サリーで雹（ひょう）・Hailstorm

この間サリー市で突然の雹を伴う嵐があった。ホンダちゃん、かわいそう。A sudden hail storm in Surrey recently left the Green Machine feeling decidedly picked on.

空が面白いけどちょっと怖い！Nasty storm--we headed home quickly!

AquaBus・アクア バス

Leaving Granville Island, we decided to hop on an AquaBus to get to the other side--downtown Vancouver and our SkyTrain home.　グランビルから帰るとき、アクア・バスのほうが早くて景色がきれい。

We went under the bridge over from Granville Island...
橋の下にと通って。。。

And turned back to see a beautiful sunset from the AquaBus...
夕焼けもアクアバスから見れた。。。

And finally we ended up at Yaletown...
１０分ぐらい後に到着。疲れたけどいい一日！

 

Granville Island Brewing・グランビル・アイランド・ビール

There is a lovely brewery on Granville Island so of course we had to go in. グランビルに醸造所（じょうぞう じょ）があったので入ってみた！ここでビールを醸造している。

There's eight types but they change two or three of them regularly. 種類はすごい。。。

We selected a nice range of six including Maple Cream and Honey Lager...味がいろいろあって。。。

Six small glasses between two of us...二人で６杯挑戦した。。。

You can even take pictures with an iTouch these days...写真、いろんな機会で撮った。。。

And in no time the glasses were empty, darnit! あっという間に終わってしまった！

What's my style? Probably wine, but the beer-tasting was a lot of fun! 自分のスタイル、何だろう。ワインかも！(ビールがおいしかったけど）　（笑）

Granville Island・グランビル・アイランド

After the museum, we went with Y to Granville Island, passing a Canadian McDonald's on the way...
バンクーバー美術館の次はグランビル・アイランドに行った。途中でカナダマックがあったから写真を撮った。

And some street art...
道沿いでもアートがあった。。。無料で見られるし。。。(笑）

 で、到着。

Granville Island has a great public market...just wandering around is a feast for the eyes.

すばらしい市場があって、ただ見ても面白い。

They had the most AMAZING kinds of home-made pasta. すごーく面白い。パスタの種類。

Ah, sweet temptation...これも食べたかった。。。

Ahem...if you say so... ;-) そうだよね！
