More ramen! またラーメン

This weekend we went into Vancouver with L's parents. And, of course, we had ramen again. It was really very good!!! この間Lの両親が遊びに来た。一緒にバンクーバーに行った。それで、おいしいラーメンをまた食べた。とてもおいしかった！

Paralympics (II)・またパラリンピック

I was hoping to be able to see some of the Paralympics Opening Ceremony but no luck. I guess I have to look online. I did find a great commercial from the UK. パラリンピックの開会式が楽しみだったのにテレビで見つけられなかった。またオンラインで探さなきゃ。このCMを見つけたけど生放送がほしいです！

I am keen on wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby. And volleyball will be good...what else...everything...but still...anything you are looking forward to? 見たいのは車椅子バスケットと車椅子のラグビーです！後、バレーボールなどがいいね！見たいのはある？

Paralympics!! パラリンピック！

I finally watched the story of how the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic mascots came to be "born." It is a bit of fun to check it out. やっとウェンロックとマンデビルの生まれ話をインターネットで見た。ウェンロックがロンドンオリンピックのマスコットで、マンデビルはロンドン・パラリンピックのシンボル。英語がちょっと入っているけどちょっと可愛いビデオです。

And now we wait patiently for the Paralympics to start tomorrow. I really hope that Canadian TV televises the event--should be fabulous! Wenlock and Mandeville cannot wait! ８月２９日から９月９日までのイベントで超楽しみにしている。ウェンロックもマンデビルも楽しみにしている。

And we have some sustenance to keep us going...紅茶とクッキーも用意してある。

画面が多すぎる！Too many screens!

People talk a lot about limiting screen time. I noticed the other day at a coffee shop, while reading my Kindle, checking my phone, and checking email on my iTouch, that we have a lot of screens. The other two screens are L's phones, but this doesn't even show computers and the TV at home. Too many screens? 家に画面がいくつあるか知っている？最近、「画面の前の時間を抑えよう」って話がいっぱいあるけど結構使っている。この間、喫茶店で気づいたのは「いやだ！画面が多いです！」　家にパソコン、iPad、DS、やテレビなどあるので画面が多すぎる！この投稿を仕上げたら散歩します！(画面なし）

Marmalade・マーマレード

Check out what L made the other day--marmalade! We have had home-made apricot jam and blueberry jam already this season so I am feeling extremely spoiled! I think the marmalade is my favourite! 今年、Lはジャム作りには待っているみたい。最初はアンズジャムで次はブルーベリージャム。この間オレンジマーマレードも作ってくれた。彼女は食べないけど作る事が大好きだって。じゃ。。。いただきまーーーす！

Wild blackberries! やぶイチゴ！

And keeping on the theme of food--while out on a walk the other day we spotted wild blackberries.この間、お散歩したとき、やぶイチゴを見つけた！

日に当たって、暖かくておいしかった！Warmed by the sun, the ripe ones were delicious!

American food! サイズが面白い！

I probably wasn't supposed to take photos in the American store the other day but I was aghast with the sizes of some things. Sure, I lived there for 3 years but some things still astound me. この間米国でちょっと買い物した。３年ちょっとアメリカに住んでいたのにサイズなどで今でもびっくりした！大きい缶と小さい缶があって面白いです。

And then I saw these--they are the strangest form of "food" but they are sweet and fun so I couldn't resist taking the picture. これも面白いです。トースター・オーブンで２軍ぐらいで出来上がり。栄養がまったくないと思うけど甘－－－－－い！

As we celebrate the achievements of all athletes in the 2012 Olympics and look forward to the 2012 Paralympics, I thought this was a bit of fun.　パラリンピックがもうそろそろ始まるのでこれを見て感動した。どの国の選手でも、がんばって！

Albert!アルバートの猫ちゃん！

Lがこの間まで住んでいたところはアルバートの猫ちゃんも一緒に住んだ。じゃねアルバートチャン！元気でね！(可愛くない？！）　This is Albert. He kept L company at the digs she lived at until recently. Fabulous cat--we miss you, Albert!

新しいマットレス！New mattresses

We have been threatening to get new mattresses for the spare bed and finally we have taken the leap. Here you go--two delightful new mattresses. Now there is no excuse--come on over to Surrey--we guarantee a spectacular sleep!  だいぶ前から新しいマットレスを買いたくて、やっと今週買いました！ちょっと高かったけど横になってみるとすごくいい感じ。お客さん大歓迎！

L in Vancouver・Lがバンクーバーで遊び（２）

In addition to wandering around English Bay, we also managed to find a fabulous nut store on Denman.イングリッシュ湾の遊びの後、このお店を見つけた。

Beautiful containers.　きれいでしょう。

Dried veggies alongside the nuts.　乾燥した野菜もあった。

We went home with some of these...　これ、少し買った。

And lots of these...　これも買って帰った。

And if that wasn't enough to satisfy the senses, we stopped at a delightful ice cream place afterwards. Check out these flavours!　次はアイスクリーム店で何か買った。

Yes, my choice was the Ferrero Rocher flavour on the bottom!　私はフェレーロ・ロシェー味を選んだ。

And to help wash it all down and keep us hydrated on our walk around town, water in a fabulous bottle bag! H-san, thank you!　暑い一日だったのでこのすばらしいペットボットル用のものをよく使った！Hさん、ありがとう！

L in Vancouver・Lがバンクーバーで遊び（１）

L has finally moved up to Vancouver. It will take some time to settle, but in the meantime we are exploring Vancouver in the summer. Check out this great sport we found...Lがやっとカナダに引っ越してきた。慣れるまでは時間かかると思うけど夏をいっぱい楽しもうとつもりです。この間バンクーバーで遊びました。スタンリー公園でクリケットを見た。

So much British culture still abounds here...カナダはやっぱりイギリスの文化まだいっぱい残っている。

English Bay was pretty busy...夏だからイングリッシュ湾が混んでいた。

Ah, gay-friendly Vancouver...バンクーバーのウェストエンドってゲイも大歓迎らしい。

今日の会議・Today's meeting

今日はチームで大事な会議があった。仕事のいろんな予定をたてるための会議だったのでとても大切だった。だからオフィスで行わなくてバンクーバー・ヨット・クラブでやった。ボスの一人がメンバーでとてもおしゃれな場所だった。ルールがいっぱいあったので自分で写真取れなかった。でも、このような場所だった。Today we went offsite for a team meeting. We had a lot of important things to think about and talk about so we met at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. One of the Directors is a member so we were able to use one of the meeting rooms. Absolutely spectacular but the rules frowned on photo taking. These are web stock but you get the picture.

会議室からの本当の景色だった。すごいでしょう！This is the view from our meeting room--it is a shock we got anything done!

Coins・小銭

This is an homage to the humbe toonie--the Canadian two-dollar coin. I am not sure why they call it that but with the Queen and a bear on opposite sides, it is an interesting insight into Canada. またカナダのお金を気に入った。2ドル硬貨がToonieと呼ばれている。理由が分からないけど女王と熊さんが描かれていて面白いと思う。国のお金って文化の表面もあるよね。

和食・Ah...Japanese food...

最近、日本について超懐かしいです。今日食べたものはこれです。日本で食べたときとは違う味だけどちょっと日本に近づいてきたような感じかな。There is nothing quite as delicious as Japanese fare...in my humble opinion...

社内の宝くじで当たった！Won at a work raffle

Check out what I won in the organizational raffle at work. It was part of a fundraiser so I put $20 worth of raffle tickets into some cups.　社内の宝くじでイタリア料理を当たった。

And voila, I won an Italian food hamper! What a bit of luck!運がいいでしょう！！

The end of the Olympics・オリンピックの閉会式

今日はオリンピックの閉会式だった。この１７日間のイベントをもっと見たかったけど見たのは超楽しかった。ウェンロックとマンデビルというオリンピック・マスコットと一緒に閉会式を楽しめた。Today was the final day of the 2012 London Olympics. I didn't watch as much as I wanted to but I definitely enjoyed everything I watched. And today, I was joined for the closing ceremonies by a couple of serious Olympic fans--Wenlock and Mandeville.  Wenlock (on the left) is the symbol of the 2012 Olympics and Mandeville (right) is the mascot for the upcoming 2012 Paralympics.左側のウェンロックはオリンピックのマスコットで右側のマンデビルはパラリンピックのシンボルでス。

Here they are enjoying some British music...イギリスの音楽をたくさん楽しめた。。。

Supporting the Japanese athletes...日本選手も見つけた！

And saying good-bye to a lovely Summer Olympics...bravo London...すばらしいオリンピックだった。ロンドンの皆さん、おめでとう！

靴下、もうたくさんだ！Enough is enough!

この間冬の服を片付けた。そうすると冬の靴下がたくさんあることがよく分かった。すごいでしょう！で、夏の服をスーツケースから引き出すとき気づいたのはバンクーバーはもしかして夏か足りない。今年、全部の夏の服を着ることが無理と思う。夏か涼しくて短いのでがんばっても切れないものがたくさんありそう。来年、がんばる！

I finally put my winter stuff away the other day. Looks like I have enough winter socks to last me a life time. On that note, I have some doubt that Vancouver has enough summer to let me wear all of my wardrobe. Looks like I might be pulling these winter socks back out sooner than I will like. At least I have enough to keep me warm!
