Butter cake! ケーキ！

今日のうれしいことはバターケーキです！オリンピックのお祝いかな？Lはバターケーキを作ってみようといって、作ってみた。信じられないほどおいしいです。必ず太ります！紅茶にぴったり！　today, L made butter cake. I don't know if she was inspired by the Olympics to make something that goes well with a good cup of tea, but whatever the inspiration, I enjoyed the calorie intake. Absolutely delightful!

楽しかった！A bit of harmless fun!

Instead of eating healthy food, we opted for some breadsticks and Starbucks. How absolutely delightful! Bring on the fast-paced unhealthy worklife--so much more fun!　今日、いい食べ物の日じゃなかった。残念ながらスターバックスを飲みながらピザ生地でつくられったパンを食べてしまった。

Celebrating a new job! 新しい仕事のお祝い！

As L starts her new job tomorrow, we decided to have a special dinner at home. We got tuna and salmon sashimi and made somen. Absolutely delightful for celebrating a new job and enjoy a summer's evening at home.　Lは明日、新しい仕事が始まる。お祝いするためにお刺身を買って、家で食べた。夏だからそうめんも作っておいしく食べた。

ジャム作り！Someone made jam!

Do you remember what the front garden looked like in winter? Well, it looks very different now, and the tree even has some kind of fruit on it. 冬に庭の景色覚えている？　夏の景色がだいぶ違う。気が緑になって、実もできている。

何の実か分からなかった。。。We didn't know what kind of fruit it was or even if it was edible.

結構たくさんありました！大家さんが「スモモだ」と教えてくれた。「使い放題にしてよ」って言われた。 Luckily our landlord stopped by yesterday to tell us they were plums and we should help ourselves.

そう言われたら、Lがジャムを作ってみた。 So we did help ourselves, and L even did some fun stuff with them.

あまり甘くなくてすごくおいしいです！ She made jam!

もう試してみた！And it is fantastic!

Hart House dinner・おしゃれなな夕飯

今夜、おしゃれなところで外食した。１９１０年に建てられた「ハート・ハウス」にレストランがあります。Tonight we had a lovely dinner out at Hart House. It was built in 1910 and now has a rather elegant restaurant located inside.

晴れていたので外にした。It was a beautiful evening so we elected to sit outside.

緑のいっぱいあるところで食べながらリラクスできた。The tables are surrounded by greenery--absolutely delightful location.

隣に結婚式があっていい感じだった。There was evening a wedding going on nearby, so that was fun to be near.

食べ物はフランス系かな。The food was excellent, starting with this delightful amuse bouche.

サラダとシーフードがおいしかった。 The endive salad was probably my favourite dish, closely followed by the seafood trio in the background.

 メインコースが魚と野菜で健康的。 And the fish main course--how delightful.

デザートは遠慮した。すごいでしょう！We were so full, we opted out of dessert. How unusually disciplined of us!

Japanese food downtown・バンクーバーの和食

On Sunday we enjoyed Japanese food downtown with a good friend. Of course, there was beer...日曜日に和食をバンクーバーでいただきました。

And udon salad...うどんサラダ。。。

And fried chicken...から揚げ。。。

And cod roe pasta (try it...really...)...明太子パスタが意外とおいしかった！

And a delicious set lunch...セットも。。。

Afterwards we were tempted by delicious ice cream...デザートはアイスにしようと思っていたけど。。。

But settled on this...delightful!　餡蜜にした！おいしかった！

First time for Caesars! シーザーを飲んだ！

This past Sunday we went into Vancouver to hang out with a friend I have known for over 10 years--we met in Japan. Hi introduced me to the Caesar--Canada's twist on the Bloody Mary, with some extra spice, pickled bean, garlic, salt and pepper on the rim, and clam juice. It was excellent! We tried them out at the Central Bistro on Denman Street because they make great Caesars and they are on special on Sundays. 日曜日に日本で１０年前にあった友達とバンクーバーで遊んだ。今ちょっと疲れているけどひとつのことを教えます：シーザーというカナダの飲み物をはじめて飲んだ。彼はなんかいも飲んだことあるけど私は始めて。シーザーって言うのはブラッディ・メアリーみたいなもの。ブラッディ・メアリーより辛くてアサリ汁も入っている。デンマン道にあるセントラルビストロは日曜日においしくて安いシーザーがあるのであそこに行った。

おいしかった！また飲まなきゃ！We will have to go back on Sunday!

これすごい！Solar powered village in Japan!

This is a great story I just heard about. Forty-two people in a village in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan decided to go 100% solar powered in their village after the Fukushima nuclear "incident". Pretty impressive. 最近このニュースが耳に入った。兵庫県のある村に住んでいる４２人が太陽光発電を使い始めた。感動した！

Fusion festival・サリー市のお祭りに行った！

Today we checked out the multicultural Surrey Fusion Festival. 今日は楽しいお祭りに行った。サリー市の多文化的なお祭りです。

It was a beautiful day and the festival was held in a lovely local park. 外のお祭りだから晴れの日でよかった！

First on the food list was a Bolivian cheese empanada. 最初は大好きなボリビアのエンパナダー！

There was pineapple juice from Colombia--by far the most popular stand at the festival. コロンビアのパイナップルジュースもあった。

It wouldn't be Canada without a beaver staring at you from a truck...カナダだからビーバーマーク！

The Sri Lankan stall proudly displayed the national pastime. スリ・ランカの屋台はクリケットについての説明もあった。

Greece was out in full force. ギリシアの屋台。

And the gyro we had was delightful! 
ギリシアの串焼きはおいしかった。

Something delicious from the Italian stand. イタリアのもの。

Korea was represented but we didn't have room...
韓国料理もあった。

This was only for children but darn, it looked like fun. これは子供用だけど楽しそう。

They provided lovely cold water on the pretty warm day. おいしいお水も無料で提供してくれた。

Thank gosh I found room for a Portuguese doughnut! デザートはポルトガルのドーナツ！

And the recycling gang was out in full force to keep people accountable.  リサイクルも大事にしているみたい。

There were so many countries represented, it felt a bit like the Olympics! いろんな国の代表がいて、ちょっとオリンピックっぽかった！

Ah yes...there's that lovely flag...南アの国旗も発見！
