冬季オリンピック２０１０年・Winter Olympics 2010

Whistler was one of the venues for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Apparently there was not enough snow that year but they managed. I wasn't in Canada at that time but I was still able to feel some atmosphere on the weekend. ホイッスラーは２０１０年の冬季オリンピックの会場のひとつだった。バンクーバーオリンピックの年で雪が足りなかったッて。そのときいなくて残念だけど雰囲気がちょっと残っている。

これもあっていいなー！これが「イヌクシュク」です。イヌクシュックは、カナダのイヌイットの人々が方位（ほうい）を示す目印（めじるし）として使う石の像。イヌクシュクは友情と希望のシンボル。（だって！www.alc.co.jpから）I also managed to see the Inukshuk. Apparently the Inukshuk are stone sculptures used as directional landmarks by the Inuit people. They symbolize friendship and hope--perfect for the Olympics.

Whistler Brewery・ビール醸造所へ訪問

On Saturday we went to the Whistler Brewing Company for a tour. It was fabulous!!　土曜日に近くのビール醸造所（じょうぞうじょ）に行って、ツアーした！とても楽しかった。

They have lots of different types of beer. And check out the skis on the beer draft handles! 生ビールハンドルがスキー形になっていて面白い。

Malt and hops that go into the beer.　ビールの原料で、モルト（麦芽｛ばくが｝）とホップです。（酵母｛こうぼ｝とお水も大事です）

This was great--a beer with chocolate!　チョコが入っていておいしかった！

I didn't take pictures of the beer, but this is the German pretzel we ate with mustard!　ビールの写真をなんとなく取れなくて残念。食べ物の写真を撮ったのに。。。

This was my favourite beer--very nice.　一番すきなのはこれです。

 I didn't try this one...　これ飲んでいないけど。。。飲む！

 But I bought a few to try at home... ;-D　　持ち帰りの種類、楽しみ！

すべっていないのに・No skiing but...

Whistler is a very popular ski resort. We didn't ski but we can understand why you would...すべっていなかったけどホイッスラーは人気のあるスキー場がたくさんある。

 二日目が晴れていてとてもきれいなところだった。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 一日リフトパスが百ドルぐらいかかってしまうので雪は見るものだと思う！たかーーーーーい！　At almost $100 a day for a lift pass, I am very happy just to look at the pretty slow from the affordable comfort of the bottom of the hill.

ホイッスラーで見たもの・Seen in Whistler

Check out the fun/weird things we saw in Whistler on the weekend. They provide doggy waste bags--there were a LOT of dogs vacationing in Whistler with their owners, so this is a great way to keep the streets clean of puppy poop.ホイッスラーで見たものはいろいろ。犬のフンのための袋が無料です。犬かっていないのにこれがうれしいです！犬がいっぱいいたのにフンが一回も見なかった！

Great shop with lots of bear-themed goods (yes, even I engaged in the evil that is shopping!)　このお店が熊ちゃんのグーズいっぱいあった。買い物が大嫌いの私でも何か買ってしまった！

And this was very entertaining. I used to work at a Longhorn restaurant in Johannesburg. This is not the same chain, but it made me very nostalgic about the good old days...これがとても楽しかったの。南アフリカに住んでいたとき、同じ名前（ロングホーン）のレストランで何年働いていて。チェインが違うけどこのレストランの看板を見て、懐かしくなった。

Check out the bear-safe trash can. このゴミ箱のデザインは本当の熊さんが入れないようになっている。

It even had a Japanese explanation.　日本語の説明もあってびっくりした！やっぱり観光客が多いい！

ホイッスラーの朝食・Whistler breakfast

The joy of Whistler is being able to walk everywhere. Luckily there was not a lot of snow--just enough for atmosphere.ホイッスラーの特徴は散歩できること。どこに行っても足でいける（ほとんど）。

朝はドイツのカフェに行って、朝食を食べた。コーヒーの種類が面白いの。 We walked to this great breakfast place called Ingrid's. They have some pretty great coffees...

実はオレンジジュースを飲んだ。健康的かなと思ったけどLはチップスも頼んじゃった！
But we actually had orange juice...much healthier (not so healthy with the chips).

Lはバーガーで私は卵、チーズやトマトの入ったクロワッサン。L had a burger and I had an egg-tomato-cheese croissant.

最後は大好きなナナイモ・バー。メープルシロップよりずっとおいしいです。何でカナダがメープルシロップで有名か分からない。ナナイモ・バーのほうがずっとおいしいの！And then came the delightfully sinful part--the Nanaimo bar. I don't know why Canada is famous for maple syrup...THIS is the true delight of Canadian cuisine...

First night in Whistler・ホイッスラーの第一夜

ホイッスラーの第一夜にイタリア料理を外で食べた。On the first night in Whistler, we ate at this lovely Italian restaurant.

カラマーリーとサラダを注文した。ピザも食べたけど写真がない。Calamari and salad (and I had pizza, which didn't make it to the photo stage)。。。

最高なのは景色。。。すごくない？ The best part? Walking back to the hotel through this...

 And past this...いいよね。。。

Whistler weekend(1)・この間の週末

この間ホイッスラーで週末を過ごした。バンクーバーから２時間ぐらい車で行けば山のところに着く。雪があって、きれいなところです。This weekend we went up to Whistler. It is about 2 hours north of Vancouver--a beautiful drive and a beautiful place.

The room was great, with a kitchen and dining area. 部屋がすばらしかった！台所もダイニングもあった！

Check out the different types of pillows! 枕はいろんな種類があった。

硬めな方もあって。。。

 やわらかい方があって。。。すごくない？

But this was the really fun part...これが一番面白かったポイントです！

 

I had no idea what a Murphy Bed was...マーフィーベッドってなんだまったく分からなかった。

You pull on it...引いてみると。。。

And this comes out... こう出る。。。

Brilliant!!! A spare bed! ほかのベッドが出る！すごーーーーい！
