やっとダークナイト！Finally...the Bat...

７月に公開したけど私が昨日やっと見た！近くの映画館で見たかったけどなかなか来なかった。昨日、アメリカのベリングハム市に行って、車の修理がちょっと時間かかった。その機会を使って２時間半の第三番目のバットマン映画を見に行った。超楽しかった。私にとって第一作が一番面白かったけど第三作も結構良かった。全部の物語を見て、終わることがちょっと残念。続くかな。。。　The movie came out in July but I was waiting for it to come to the local cinema with the great seats and sound. While we were in Bellingham yesterday we had 3 hours to kill while the car was sorted out. Perfect opportunity to walk across the mall and spend some time in Gotham...a very very good movie!

Bob's burgers・バーガー！

We popped across the border again today to finish up car export/import stuff. And we managed to find time for lunch along the way--a burger for L and a salad for me. 今日またアメリカに行ってきた。車の輸出、輸入の手続きが今日で終わりです！ランチをやっぱり南のほうで食べた。Lはバーガーで私はサラダを。

Check out what made it on the menu--squirrel sandwich???? What the heck??? メニューに会ってあったことがちょっとびっくり。リス・サンド？？？あれ？？？

Apparently it was only a name--no squirrels included! But in England, they eat squirrels apparently (see link below)...um...no thanks...やっぱり名前だけです。リスちゃんは入っていない。でも、イギリスでリスが食べられるそうです。結構です。。。

ローラーブレードを購入！I got blades!

This is probably some sort of middle age crisis rearing its ugly head but I have had it in my head that I wanted to try rollerblading again. And sure enough, I could not get the idea out of my head. So this weekend, weather permitting, I will be on the greenway with wind in my hair. After that I will probably be in hospital getting my bones set, but whatever--you are only young once (and for me it was quite a while ago). Viva a cast on my leg, viva!

年のせいかもしれないけど最近ローラーブレードがやりたくてしょうがない。中年に近づいているのでもうちょっとエネルギーの必要な趣味がほしい。昨日、やっとうローラーブレードを買った。今日また夜遅く帰ってきたのでまだ使っていない。土曜日に頑張りまーーーーーーす！

 

死ぬ前に。。。Before I die...

What do you want to do before you die? I am sure there are lots of things, but what is one thing you absolutely want to do?  I watched the following 6-minute video today and it really made me think. 映画を見に行った・Saw another movie

We went to another movie!! Friday night is our 'date night' but we are usually too tired after the week's work to do anything other than a pizza and DVD at home. Last week, however, we had more energy so we went for sushi and a movie. この間、面白い映画を見に行った。金曜日の夜は私たちの「デート・ナイト」です。金曜日になるといつも疲れているのでほとんどうちに帰って、ピザーを焼いて、DVDを見るぐらいのデートになる。先週はちょっとエネルギーがあったので外で日本食を楽しめました。私はサーモン照り焼き弁当。 I had the salmon meal...

L had the tempura set... Lは天ぷら弁当。

We hit the lovely local cheap theatre and saw Hope Springs. It is a pretty deep movie about a marriage in trouble--not exactly the romantic comedy I was expecting. But it was still pretty good. その後、一人３００円のシネマに行ってHope Springsという映画をポップコーン食べながら見た。テーマはうまくいっていない結婚だからコメディーじゃないけどなんとなく面白かった。日本語字幕の予告編は見つかれなかくてごめん。どう？面白そう？

Dinner at Cactus Club Cafe・Cactus Club Cafeで夕飯

I had a fabulous meal with friends the other day after work. We went to the Cactus Club Cafe close to work and sat outside--we even managed to have sundowners (drinks while the sun is going down). この間友達とすばらしい夕飯を楽しめました。仕事場の近くにあるCactus Club Cafeというレストランでゆっくりとした夕飯。外のテーブル、夕焼けも見れた。

メニューを見てから面白い飲み物を注文。Looking at the cocktail menu we chose the following...

左側はThe Brazilianで右側はThe Cohiba。右のほうがおいしかった。A Brazilian on the left and a Cohiba on the right--the blackberries were divine!

友達が前菜を三つも頼んでしまった！ビーンズ、カラマーリ、お刺身の中でどっちが一番おいしかったかまったく分からない。お刺身かな。 For starters we had beans, calamari and sashimi--spectacular array!

メインもたくさん頼んだので分けた。ツナサンドとサラダ。 We also shared mains--with a tuna sandwich and salad...

...And the most spectacular pumpkin squash ravioli I have ever had in my life! SPECTACULAR! かぼちゃのラビオリが最高だった。松の実も入っていて信じられないほどおいしかった！

 ご馳走様！Rub-a-dub-dub...thanks for the grub!

IHOP・パンケーキ・ホウス

Yesterday we headed south across the border to do some car export/import paperwork. We only spent a few hours there but all work and no play is no darn fun! So we hit iHop for a fun breakfast. Four types of syrup!!!???!!! 昨日またアメリカに行ってきた。国境を越えてすぐあるべリングハム市で時間をちょっと過ごした。車の輸出と輸入の手続きをやらなければいけなかったので行ってきた。「仕事ばかりで遊びのない」 一日って面白くないのでiHopでおいしい朝食を。シロップの種類が四つあって超楽しみだった。

For those counting calories there is a choice of sweeteners (not for me--fatty that I am!) ダイエットしている人のためも砂糖の変わりのものがあった。(私は使わないけど。。。）

L had eggs and bacon; I had crepes and strawberries! Lは卵とベーコン(前）、私はクレープとイチゴ（うしろ）。

And we shared a pancake....shocking lack of fruit, I know... :-) パンケーキをシェアした！果物ちょっと足りないかな。。。

初めてのスマートフォン・My first smartphone

今年やっとスマートフォンを手に入れた。誕生日プレゼントで超うれしいです。友達はみんなiPhoneやAndroidが好きで私が違う道を選んだ。ちょっと遅いかもしれないけどブラックベリーを選んだ。格好よくない？会社は近いうちにつぶれるかもしれないけどすばらしいフォンだと思う！それで毎月のプランは5000円いないです。カナダや米国への電話はかけ放題です。データも使い放題。携帯メールも打ち放題。うれしいいいいいいいい！

Yes, I finally made the leap to a smartphone. It was about time, I suppose. Despite the desperate pleas of friends urging me to go with the iPhone or an Android system, I stuck firmly to my stubborn ways and got a Blackberry. I am totally addicted to it--it is fast, easy-to-use, and has been tonnes of fun to learn. Let's just hope the company stays afloat long enough for me to enjoy the phone and get support!

国際読書週間・International book week

This is International Book Week, apparently. What are you reading? This is my current read: 今週間は国際読書週間だそうです。今何を読んでいる？私はこれです：

I read the first one back in August and LOVED IT! So now I am reading the second book in the series and really wish the third one was already written. The wait is going to be tough! ８月に彼女の最初の本を読んだ。とても面白かったのでシリーズの二冊目を今読んでいる。三冊目が来年当たり刊行されるはずですが待つことは大変になりそう。お勧めある？I got this out of the library recently--anyone read it?

イタリアの料理を食べた！Lが１００日間カナダにいていたので外食した。おいしかったけど何か足りなかった。やっぱり本物を食べるのにイタリアに行かなきゃ！ Had some average Italian food to celebrate L's 100th day in Canada. If we want the real thing, I guess we have to go to Italy. ;-)

 

今日の仕事・My work day today

Today was my busiest day so far at the new job. We go live with the project tomorrow so the website had to be up. It is finally up and tomorrow there is a big media release and I am in charge of getting the eNewsletter out on time and accurately.  Tomorrow will be busy as well, but then it's beer time!

今日は新しい仕事を始めて以来一番忙しかったのです。明日はプロジェクトの大事な一日です。ウェブサイトがアップして、メールマガをはじめて送って、新聞記事やメディア広告が発表されてとても大事な一日です。今日は準備で忙しくて明日もバタバタに成りそう。家でできるだけ長く住みたいお年寄りを支えるプロジェクトだからとても大事です。政府のお金でプロジェクトを経営しているのでメディアは一般の人たちが詳しく見ている。ちょっと怖いけどお年寄りのためにがんばります。

Eating outside is one of my favourite things to do. And the food was magnificent. 外で食事することは最高！夕飯はとてもおいしかった！

Down to The Claw・イーナムクロー市に行った

We headed south this week to a funeral for one of L's ex-workmates. The lady died suddenly of colon cancer and we went south on Friday afternoon to be there for the funeral on Sunday. 金曜日の午後に米国に行きました。Lの前の職場の同僚が急に結腸ガンで無くなりました。お葬式は土曜日なので金曜日に南へ向かった。A garden on the border...国境の近くにある庭です。

やっぱりアメリカ。And the lovely town of Blaine.

We stopped for coffee on the way down. Check out the size of the coffee filters! コーヒーを途中で飲みました。コーヒーフィルターはすごく大きかった！

Japan on my doorstep・日本が近づいてきた

I received a marvellous package for my birthday...it felt like Japan came for a visit. K-san...thank you very much...I am going to sit and drink soup and tea and start reading Space Brothers! What a perfect evening and a divine birthday week. THANK YOU!  今日、誕生日プレゼントが届きました。すばらしいものが入っていて信じられないほどうれしいです。日本がなんとなく家に入ってきてくれて、感謝の言葉が足りません。Thank you thank you thank you!　漫画読んできます！

A brilliant game! ボード・ゲーム

One of my resolutions in my 39th year is to have more fun, play more games, do more things. This is one game I thoroughly enjoy but don't play enough--Dominion. I resolve to play more this year!  ３９歳になってからいろいろ目的を考えようと思う。ひとつはもっと遊ぶこと。このゲームはドミニオンというゲームでとても楽しいです。最近、遊びが足りない。もっと遊ばなきゃ！

昨日の誕生日！Birthday celebrations

So, I broke my golden rule and worked on my birthday. It was only the second time I have done it. The first was on my 30th birthday--I was working for JCCP in Tokyo and I didn't have a good reason to be off. So I worked. I didn't really enjoy it but apparently my memory is fading because I worked yesterday again. Bad idea. Then again, it was actually not that bad, it just felt different than the birthday I take off to celebrate me-ness. I did arrive at my desk to find four balloons there in the morning...昨日はまた「２９歳」の誕生日だった。普段働かない私は新しい仕事場でがんばりました。人生、二回目の出勤・誕生日だった。一回目は日本紛争予防センターに働いていた３０歳の誕生日だった。誕生日に仕事をすることは嫌いだった。記憶力はやっぱり良くないので今年また「出勤・誕生日」を過ごした。実はそんなに悪くないけど誕生日の雰囲気はちょっと足りなかった。オフィスに着くと風船が四つあって笑った。

The team took me for lunch and then there was cake in the afternoon. 昼をチームと外食した。午後にケーキもチームで食べた。

L took me for sushi in the evening. 夜にお寿司をいただきました。

And there was cake at home...so all in all I was spoiled rotten.

で、帰ってからまたケーキがあった。ご馳走様。

29 again! また２９歳！

Yes, it's that time of year again...to celebrate yet another trip round the sun. Where did the time go? How can I be 29 already? Tomorrow is the big day but L and J treated me to a lovely one-day-early birthday dinner. Thank you both--and thanks for the lovely card and wine and rose, J. あらま。。。明日でまた誕生日です。一年って速いね！今夜、LとJさんと誕生日夕飯を一緒に食べた。一日早いけどとても楽しかった。二人とも、ありがとう！！！

残念ながらパラリンピックが終わってしまった。とても楽しかった。今日、日本対フランスの車椅子テニスの試合を見た。The Paralympics are over...what a fabulous couple of weeks! Today I caught some of the Japan-France wheelchair tennis game.
