So long 2012...良いお年を。

2012 is almost over--it is over in Japan and lots of other countries. It was a bit of a tough year but looking back, it was also a very important year for growth and personal learning. I am almost sorry to let go of the year. What will 2013 bring, I wonder...

２０１２年がもうそろそろ終わります。日本ではもう終わってしまった。振り返ってみると２０１２年が難しい一年だった。しかしそうは言ったものの、いろいろ勉強にもなりました。自分の時間がいっぱいあって、自分の深いことが良く分かりました。大切な一年。２０１３年がどうなるかな。

シアトルに行ってきた！Overnight in Seattle

On Friday we went to Seattle for two days and one night. It was great...we started out at Pikes Place Market...金曜日にシアトルに行きました。一泊して、超楽しかった。シアトルの市場に行って。。。

Then we hit the Almond Roca factory outlet store...アルモンド・ロカのアウトレット・ストアにも行って。。。

Had dinner at a great fondue place... フォンデューも食べて。。。

And the next day was pizza...a great couple of days in Seattle... 翌日にピザーを食べた！楽しかった！

レ・ミゼラブルを見た！Watched Les Miserables!

On Boxing Day (Dec. 26th) we went to see Les Miserables at a nearby cinema. It was excellent and I highly recommend it. The only trouble was it is an emotional roller coaster so I cried a LOT and was exhausted at the end. Take tissues and prepare for a helluva ride!

ボクシングデーに映画館でレ・ミゼラブルを見に行った。すばらしかったけど3時間弱のジェット・コースターなので見終わるとくたくた疲れた！

Christmas fun! 楽しいクリスマス！

We've had a fair amount of fun food. We had dim sum for lunch on Monday, from dim sum carts, which was great. 月曜日に点心（てんしん）を楽しく食べた。カートがあったので超面白かった。

Check out this huge gingerbread house...ジンジャーブレッド・クッキーで作ったお菓子の家です。すごくない？私たちが作ったわけじゃない。ホテルで見た。

And a beautiful poinsettia...きれいなポインセチア。

Christmas Dinner! クリスマス・ディーナー

This upload is a bit late--sorry but I have been a bit distracted and busy with my mom in town. On Christmas Day we went out to the Sheraton for a delightful Christmas dinner. We started with soup, bread, and salad. The soup was maple pumpkin flavour! 投稿がやっぱり遅くてごめん！ママが遊びに来ているのでブログの時間が足りない。クリスマスの日にシェラトン・ホテルに行って、１６：３０から夕飯をいただけました。最初はサラダとパンプキンスープ。

Then I had a plate of Canadian salmon--delightful!
次はカナダの名物でサーモンをたくさん食べた。

Then instead of turkey, I had pasta. The best part was the yorkshire pudding, cranberry sauce, and traditional stuffing! Yum! 七面鳥の代わりで、パスタをちょっと食べた。まあまあだったけどおいしかったのはヨークシャー・プディング、クランベリー・ソース、と伝統的なドレッシング。

Finally, I had pineapple, cheese, and mince pie for dessert. What a lovely meal! デザートはパイナップル、チーズ、とミンスミート・パイ。ご馳走様でした！

クリスマス・パントマイム・Christmas pantomime

Yesterday we went to a Christmas pantomime, which is a traditional thing to do at this time of year. A pantomime is a play with singing and dancing a lot of fun word puns and silly jokes, often based on traditional children's stories. It was really a lot of fun.
昨日、クリスマス・パントマイムを見に行った。海賊たちの話でよく笑いました。www.alc.co.jpによると、「クリスマス・パントマイム」と言うのは「伝統的にクリスマスに演じられる小喜劇で、民間伝承やおとぎ話を歌や踊りに合わせて演じるもの」だそうです。

During the intermission we had egg nog latte (with rum) and apple cider! De-----lish!
休憩時間に飲んだ飲み物はエッグ・ノッグ・ラッテー(左）とアップル・サイダー(右)。おいしかった！

また水族館・Back to the aquarium

Today we went to the Vancouver aquarium with my mom. The Beluga was the big favourite again. 今日、またバンクーバー水族館に行きました。ママが遊びに来ているのあっちこっち行っている。ベルーガが一番好きだったかも。

The penguins were pretty cute, too... ペンギンたちもかわいかった！

And the sea lions... アシカも。。。

Thanksgiving dinner・感謝祭の夕飯

投稿がすごく遅いけど11月22日に感謝祭ディナーを外食した。This upload is a bit late, but we went out for a Thanksgiving dinner at the end of November...

Dessert was a disappointing apple pie....デザートは超がっかりのアップル・パイ。

魚介類！Seafood!

I have had a lovely few days of seafood. First, L made fried oysters! Yum! 最近たくさん魚介類を楽しく食べた！Lがカキ・フライを作ってくれた。

先週、中華レストランに同僚と行って、かにの何とかを食べた！
Then last week, I went to a Chinese restaurant with some office workers and we had these great crab things!

雪だ！Snow!

Last week it snowed in Surrey! It was great but it made the commute to work a real pain. It is so beautiful, I hope it snows again for Christmas day!
この間、サリー市で雪が降りました！超楽しかったけど通勤時間が大変だった！雪がきれいで、クリスマスの日にも降ってほしい！

Office carols・クリスマスキャロルの歌声

The other day, an office friend made cupcakes to celebrate the Christmas season. この間、オフィスで、友達がカップケーキを作ってくれた。クリスマスだからちょっと祝う感じだった。

And talking of Christmas, some of the people I work with sang a bunch of carols for the whole office--what a lot of fun!
クリスマスと言えばキャロル。ある同僚が職場でキャロルを歌ってくれた。超楽しかった。

Baps!　パン作り！

Check out the winter food that L made! She made baps--Portuguese bread rolls that are very similar to the kind I used to eat in South Africa. It was soooooo nice to have that taste again! 冬だからLがおいしいものを作る！この間パンを作ってくれた。これがポルトガルのパン。南アフリカでよく食べたので超懐かしかった！

Football? アメリカン・フットボール

L started watching some NFL yesterday. I don't really get American Football so it wasn't as much fun for me...either I learn the game or find another hobby for the rainy months... :)

今日、Lがアメリカン・フットボールをちょっと見た。私はまったく分からないけどちょっと見ようと思った。やっぱりゲームが分からないとあまり楽しくない。雨の中、ほかの趣味がほしい！！

Stuff I ate! 食べたもの！

最近食べたもの。コストコでのホットドッグ。これで最後！(食べてからおなかがすごく痛くなった）もういいです！Didn't do much worth blogging about yesterday--it was a weekend of cleaning so here are a couple of shots of stuff eaten recently. A hot dog from Costco (never again--I had a terrible tummy ache)...

レモンかけの魚。健康的。This was a lovely fish with lemon...very light and healthy (way better than the hot dog).

Star Wars Advent Calendar

We bought an interesting advent calendar for this year...with an interesting theme...Star Wars! :-) 今年は面白い待降節｛たいこうせつ｝カレンダーを買った。日本にはないと思うけどクリスマスまでのカウントダウンで楽しいです！毎日チョコ食べれる！やっぱり太ってしまう！This is not really a tradition in Japan but it is fun to do while counting down to Christmas. And you get to each chocolate every day! (and put on more weight..yaaaaay, the holidays!)

Check out the pool I swam in yesterday morning. We stayed over after Thursday night's office Christmas party in a hotel in Burnaby. Then on Friday morning I got up and used the pool--it was heated but outside so that was a bit of a chilly shock. It was a great feeling to swim under the clear morning sky...I really need a pool! 木曜日の夜はオフィスのクリスマスパティーで、ホテルに泊まった。金曜日に起きてホテルのプールでちょっと泳いだ。外のプールなのでちょっと寒かった。温水プールだけど空気がちょっと涼しかった。誰もいなくて超リラックスできた！また行きたい！

また動物（最後）。。。The last one about animals...

The day at Northwest Trek was truly unforgettable. Walking around and viewing animals from areas like this was fabulous. ノースウェスト・トレクでの一日が超楽しかった。このような自然なところで動物をゆっくり見るのがすばらしかったのです。
