This past weekend we headed down south. On Thursday night we had a meal in Washington that was delightful. この間アメリカに行ってすばらしい週末を過ごした。木曜日の夜にBBQレストランでおいしい夕飯を楽しめた。私はマルゲリーター！I started with a margerita...

And L had a Bloody Mary...Lはブラッディーマリー。

ソースがいろいろあって、豚の顔がソースで描かれた。

L ate the meat and I indulged in drunk apples, coleslaw, cornbread, and salad...

Lはお肉、私はコーン・ブレッド、リンゴとサラダを食べた。

Dessert was a bit on the sweet side...banana pudding!

また食べ物の話でごめんね。。。この間オレゴン州に行ってきたので週末の投稿はない！写真をアップしてから投稿します！とりあえず最近の一日の三食です。おいしかった！

Happy Halloween! ハローウィーン！

今日はハローウィーンなので仕事場でかぼちゃ彫られたカボチャ競争があった。お菓子を使って、怖いカボチャを作る競争だったけど残念ながら負けた。左側から三個も作ったけど右側の魔女カボチャが勝った。残念だけど楽しかった。仕事は明日から。。。　；－）

We had a pumpkin carving contest at work today. We were told to use candy to make the scariest pumpkin possible. The three on the left were submitted by a creative member of our team but the pumpkin on the right actually won. No fair! But it was fun and these are pretty good, right?

My next book・これから読む本

今日、図書館から借りた本を読み始めた。最初の行がすごく面白い。  読書の秋だからこれからもっと読もうと思う。漫画も読んでいるのでどうしよう。時間もっとほしい！

I am starting another book--and another trilogy. The first line is great: "It has been sixty-four years since the president and the Consortium identified love as a disease, and forty-three since the scientists perfected a cure."

今週、読み終わりそう。 楽しみ！I'll let you know how it goes...

Autumn of appetite・食欲の秋

It's the season of appetite. Autumn is fading fast but no such luck with my appetite. 食欲の秋です。秋が毎日消えているけど食欲はなかなか消えない。残っている秋はきれいです。。。

L made pizza dough recently--which is a fabulous way to do pizzas. この間Lがピザを作った。生地から作ったので超おいしかった。

Hers has way too much onion on it for my liking. Lのほうはたまねぎがいっぱい。

They look great in the oven. オーブンにあるピザ。

And they tasted pretty good with an egg on top. 卵がおいしかった。

My favourite was definitely the margarita pizza and a glass of white.

TEDx Vancouver! TEDｘバンクーバーに行った

Today we went to TEDx Vancouver. We thought there would be lots of interesting talks and people there. For the most part the talks were OK but the organization was shocking. We waited 30 minutes in the rain to get in and then had the same lining up problem at lunch time. The food was also pretty sub-par, which is a pity for $100+ tickets. 今日、TEDxバンクーバーに行った。面白い話がいっぱいあると思って１００ドルぐらいのチケットを買った。講演がさまざまあって、とても面白いのもあった。残念なのは行列。入るまで３０分以上かかった。それとも雨だった！ランチのときでも３０分並んでいてもおいしくない弁当しかなかった。 今度は無料で、快適なお家でYouTubeを使って観察する。

Before the speakers there was an interesting live show. A drummer and violinist were playing rock music while a woman danced and painted on three black canvases. The picture is pretty blurry but it may give you an idea.  講演の前にあったショーが面白かった。写真がブラックベリーで撮ったのでちょっと良くない。ドラムをやっている人が左側。間中はバイオリンを弾いている男。右側にペンキで踊ったり、演奏したりしている人。本当にきれいで、面白い経験だった。

In between the live speakers, there were also videos from other TED talks. This was my favourite--editing my life: ライブの講演の間にほかのTEDビデオを見た。一番面白いのはこれかも：

This next one was also excellent but he speaks really fast! これも超面白かったけど日本語バージョンはない。彼がすごい早口なので英語が母国語でも難しいのよ！「リーダーがどういう意味だろう」という内容です。本当に素敵だった！

車輸入完成！The car is done!

昨日やっとう車の輸入を完成させた！カナダのナンバープレートがやっとある。まだ車につけていないけどもっている。その後カナダのコストコに行ってメンバーになった。Lの好きなものがいっぱいあるのでメンバーになったほうがいいと思った。私はコストコがあまり好きじゃないけど妥協（だきょう）が必要だね。パンプキンパイもあるかも。。。。

Yesterday, we finally finished the process for importing, registering, and insuring the car. We have BC plates for it now but they are not on the car yet (it was raining and I was tired after spending over 2 hours at the insurance place). But we have the plates!  And then we went to Costco to join. I am not a fan of the place but it has a lot of "tastes of home" for L so we joined. And they have pumpkin pie, so I win too....

Yoga・ヨガ

今日はストレスがいっぱいあった日だった。ストレス解消が必要。一番いいのは外で運動だと思うけど雨がすごい降っているので中でヨガを試してみようと思う。任天堂DSのヨガをやってからぐっする眠るつもりです。どうなるかな。。。ストレス解消にいい方法はほかにないか？

It was another stressful day at work so I am going to do some yoga and hit the hay. Any other stress release suggestions are most welcome! Cheers for now!

Fujiya!

Tonight we had dinner at a friend's house--dinner with a difference. She lives near a Japanese supermarket so we picked food up there and went to her house. The supermarket (Fujiya) even has a Japanese delivery service--classic! 今日、バンクーバーにある日本スーパーに行ってきた。友達のうちの近くに会って、クロネコ宅急便もあった！

They had tonnes of drinks but not my favourite...oh well...飲み物たくさん並んでいたのに爽健美茶歯残念ながらなかった！

We bought sushi and a range of other stuff and headed back to her house...for a lovely evening...お寿司をたくさんかって、友達のうちで食べた。何か足りなかったけどおいしかった！

世界食糧デー・World Food Day

Today is World Food Day so I was wondering what I could do. I did a bit of quick research and found that one in six people worldwide does not have enough to eat. I cannot imagine how terrible that must be. And it's preventable. There is enough food in the world for all of us.

今日は世界食糧デーだった。何をすればいいかなと思った。ちょっとだけの研究した。６人に一人の食糧は足りない。

Supporting local farmers is a great place to start.

 どうすればいい。近くの農家さんを応援して。近くの野菜・果物・お米などを買ったりする。

Signing a petition against land grabs is another good idea.

And donating to a local food bank or international charities like Oxfam--those are great too. Right, I am off to donate!

Coldstone! コールドストーン

We went to Coldstone for the first time the other day. They have some unbelievable ice-cream that I didn't try in Japan while I was there. It is quite an experience. Check out the menu--we got a Cookie Dough and a Coffee Lovers. この間初めてコールドストーンに行った。面白いアイスがあって試してみようと思った。やっぱり甘いです！でも、結構面白い。メニューもとても面白い。注文したのは「クーキー・ドー」と「コーヒーが大好き」。

DCD・友達の演技

Yesterday we headed south to Bothell to see a friend and her sister play some great music. Our friend is on the right, playing the drums. Her sister is on the left, playing the piano. They have some marvellous harmonies. They call themselves the Douglas County Daughters because they ere born in Douglas County, Nebraska. 昨日、北シアトルに行ってきた。ボセルというところで友達が演技をしていたので見に行った。彼女は写真の右側にいて、ドラムをやっている人です。左側にいるのはお姉さんで、ピアノをやっている。ネブラスカ州のダグラス郡に生まれたので「グループはダグラス・カウンティー・ドーターズと言う名前をつけたグループです。

二人とも小さいごろから楽器をやっていて、演技が大好き！

オレゴン大学の時期の友達です、音楽も映画もクリエーチブなら何でもできる人です！歌いながらドラムを演奏するのはとても難しいって。女性がやるのも珍しいって。

Their musical style is rockabilly Americana and they cover a lot of great tunes as well as writing and singing their own stuff. Check it out! どのような音楽といわれたら、アメリカンです！田舎っぽくて、アメリカーナと呼ばれているスタイルだそうです。聞いてみてください。

バンクーバーで見たもの・Things I saw downtown

I had a meeting downtown this week, which was lovely because the city was bathed in autumn.今週、仕事関係で下町で会議があった。秋だからバンクーバーが特にきれいだった。

It is actually quite a pretty city, even on a cloudy day.　曇っていたけどなんとなくきれいだなーと思った。

 

There are some streets with entire lanes just for bicycles.自転車専用道路もあって感動！

I will have to go back sometime to see if this is really the best spicy sushi in the city :)  辛いお寿司っておいしいかな。ちょっと怖い！

Cloud Atlas・見るかな

この間、テレビでこの予告編を見た。中のストーリーがありすぎてテーマなどが想像もできない。見るかな。今月中にオープンです。どうかな。

I saw an ad on TV for this movie tonight. There is so much going on I wonder how the movie will possibly hold itself together. Might be worth watching. Not sure. Any ideas?

PNE (contd)・前の話の続き

Yes, I know, I am harping back to stories of the PNE in summer, but I just realised I never uploaded these photos. The Pacific National Exhibition had more than food and Olivia (those were the best bits, though).
前の話の続きですが、この写真をまだ投稿していなくてごめん。夏に行ったお祭りに面白いのをたくさん見た。バイクのイベントもあって。。。

There were also amazing motorbike stunts...amazing, and stupid! これ、怖くない？

One of my favourite parts was the sand art. OK, so they weren't sandcastles, but they were definitely art. 一番きれいは砂の城だった。城はなかったけど面白い美術みたいなものは結構あった。

This is amazing... すごくない？

This one was OK... まあまあかな。。。

And there is something all too Canadian about this piece... なんとなくカナダ風。。。

And this piece is probably my favourite... これが一番感動的だったかも。

 So impressive. 感動。
