カレーを作った・I made curry...

We got some lovely spices for Christmas. They are from all sorts of places, so we were really excited to use them. このスパイスをクリスマスプレゼントとして届いた。インド、二本、中華、マレー、などからのスパイスで「いいなー」と思った。

I really felt like making a curry the other night--so here it is. Potatoes, a turnip, onions, etc. with a bit of cilantro mixed in for freshness. それで、カレーが作りたくて、この間作った。悪くなかったけどもうチョイがんばろうと思っています。材料はジャガイモ、たまねぎ、やカブで新鮮なシラントロがちょっと混ぜている。

Dexter in our kitchen?・台所が怖い！

This picture is a bit scary, I admit, but I also thought it was pretty interesting. L had a bit of a fight with a big red candle the other day (the candle won). Anyway, I walked in and immediately thought of the TV show Dexter. この写真はちょっと怖いけど面白いと思った。Lは赤いロウソクとちょっとケンカした。私がこの景色を見たとき、「デクスター」と言うテレビ番組を思い出した。

The TV show is about a serial killer--I haven't seen it but I have seen the ads for it. 連続殺人｛れんぞく さつじん｝についての番組で見たことないけど報告は見たことある。

今夜はタイ料理・Thai for dinner tonight

Tonight on the way home, we felt like Thai food so we stopped in to try a new restaurant. 今夜、帰りにタイレストランに寄った。どうしてもタイ料理が食べたくて、新しいところを試した。

I had Pad Thai (as usual) and L had red curry. Very impressive and we will be back! 私はやっぱりパド・タイで、Lは赤カレーを注文した。とてもおいしかった！

お肉のないミートボール・Meatless meatballs

Lがこの間、お肉のないミートボールを作ってくれた。L made some great meatless meatballs the other day...they were pretty darn good. 思ったより美味しかった。

土曜日のディーナー・Saturday supper

Last night we had a delightfully healthy dinner...夕べ、とてもおいしい晩御飯をいただけました。

Cheese, salami, cucumber, tomatoes, carrots, crackers, hummus, fruits...チーズ、サラミ、きゅうり、人参、フルーツなどで健康的かな。

And of course, where there is cheese and chocolate, red wine is sure to follow...

And for dessert, I cut up a few fruits...デザートですが。。。フルーツを切って。。。

Put them in a glass, got out the sangria bottle...。。。グラスに入れて。。。サングリアを用意して。。。

And made some adult fruit salad ;-D

手作りプレッツェル・Home-made pretzels

The other day, L got it into her head she wanted to make pretzels. From scratch! So she found a recipe and voila! Lがこの間プレッツェルをゼロから作りたくて、レシピを見つけてからすぐ作った！すごくない？

After making the dough she cut it up and rolled some into long strips.  生地を作ってからこうする。

I even made a pretzel shape--harder than you think but lots of fun.  私も形を作ってみた。思ったより難しかったけど楽しい！

It then goes into boiling water for a bit...形ができたらお湯に入れてちょっとだけボイルした。

Then the pretzels rest on a baking sheet...ボイルしたらプレッツェルがちょっとだけリラックスする。

And into the oven they go... それでオーブンに入る。

Voila...we have mouth-watering pretzels! 焼いたらこうなります！おいしかった！！

And of course...what goes well with pretzels....??? それで、やっぱりビールにあいます！

Busy Friday・金曜日が忙しかった

Today, I headed to Vancouver's North Shore to spend the day at a community meeting for work. Seniors talked about their needs and desires for services in the area. 今日は仕事で北バンクーバーに行った。地域のメンバーが集まってお年寄りさんの考え方、求めていることなどの話を聞いていた。

There were 185 people there, which is absolutely amazing! 185人ぐらいが参加してくれて、私たちがすごいびっくりした！

After the meeting finished, I went out to the parking lot to the car bathed in sunshine.  会議が終わって、駐車所に出て、車が日光を浴びていた。

Unfortunately, the drive home was a bit busy, but it was a good day, overall.

帰りの渋滞がすごかったけどすばらしい一日だった。

昨日、またジムに行った。またウォーキングやジョッギングをやっていて、これは始まる前の景色。がんばります！Got back in the gym again yesterday...this is a picture of my treadmill view...here goes nothing!

No real theme here, other than stuff I saw or ate recently. For example, this is some yummy Chinese leftovers and a lovely Whistler beer--they went very well together actually. これはテーマがないけど、最近撮った写真です。おいしい中華料理とカナダ・ビール。意外と似合った！

A very delicious, spicy peanut-flavour noodle soup...ピーナツ味のスープと麺。。。おいしかった！

Saturday breakfast...土曜日の朝食

On Saturday we headed across the border into Washington state to have breakfast. I wanted to try out my new Nexus card--the trip across the border often takes 50 minutes but in the Nexus line, we didn't even wait 10 minutes. What a fabulous idea! 土曜日にワシントン州へ行ってきた。なぜかというとネキサス・カードがやっと届きました。国境を越えるファストパスを使ってみたかったので土曜日に試してみた。普通は５０分の待つ時間なんだけど今回は１０分もかからなかった。良かった！iHop has their all-you-can-eat-pancake deal on at the moment but that doesn't really work for me (I can only eat 2 at a time anyway) それで近くのiHopに行きました。食べ方だのパンケーキがあったけど私にはもったいない。

Instead, I had strawberry crepes... 私はクレープとイチゴを注文した。

And L had country fried steak, gravy, hashbrowns and eggs...and yes, there is a lack of vegetables...I know... Lはステーキ、ソース、ハッシュ・ブラウンと卵。野菜など足りなくない？

Saturday in the life of a Versa...ヴァーサーの土曜日

On Saturday, we took the Versa across the border for an adventure. This is a shot from the inside--pretty cute, huh? 土曜日、新しいヴァーサー（TIIDA)に乗って国境を越えた。待っていたときの写真です。格好よくない？

We stopped off at the mall to get a few things after breakfast...朝ごはんを食べてから近くのモールに寄った。

Next was some grocery shopping... 次は買い物。

We put in some gas to ensure we made it back home...カナダへ帰る前にガソリーンを入れておいた。

And here we are at home (unloading the hatchback boot). Thanks, Versa...what a lovely day.　無事に帰ってきた。ヴァーサーちゃん、お疲れ様でした。

Fabulous fondue! ヴァンクーバーでフォンデュ！

Yesterday evening we went into Vancouver to enjoy a coupon I bought ages ago--for High Tea Fondue for two. Capstone is a lovely little tearoom on Robson street--very nice. 夕べ、バンクーバー下町でフォンデュを楽しめた。クーポンをだいぶ前に買っておいて、昨日やっと使えた。Capstoneといって小さなティールームみたいなところ。

It is green inside with lots of cute little tables. 緑がメインで雰囲気もすごくよいです。

And on the wall are the names of lots of different types of tea. 壁に紅茶の種類がいっぱい書いてある。

The fondue food arrives on a two-layer plate system with cheese and chocolate for dipping. Savoury on the bottom and sweet on top--absolutely delightful! 皿が二段で、甘いものが上で下は甘くないやつ。フォンデュは二つあって、チョコもチーズもおいしかった。

And after fondue we went to the Vancouver Planetarium. 食べてからバンクーバー・プラネタリウムに行った！

We watched a great show on the Origins of the Universe. I only understood about half of what they said, but it was VERY interesting. 中へ入ると一時間のショーを楽しく見れた。半分ぐらいしか分からなかったけどすごい勉強になった！

I bought a car!! 車を買った！

I bought a car, I bought a car!!! Check it out...my second Nissan!!! It's a 5-door (hatchback) silver Nissan Versa 1.8. I signed for it on Wednesday at the Nissan dealership near work... 車を買った！すごいでしょう？！私もちょっとびっくり！米、カナダでは日産「ヴァーサ」というけど日本では「ティーダ」という名前がついていると思う。可愛くない？水曜日に近くの日産ショールームに行って買った。２０１１年の１．８リトルバージョンです。３６，０００キロも走っているけどこれからも一緒にがんばるね。。。

And tonight we signed all the financing paperwork and it came home...今夜、全部の手続きや書類チェックが終わって、銀行のいろいろ終わったので一緒に帰れた。今外で静かに寝ている。

北京ダック Peking Duck

湖の投稿が遅いけど元日にいただいたお昼です。Lがずっと前から北京ダックが食べたくて、やっと食べれた。This is a bit of a late post--I am catching up. We went for Peking Duck on New Year's Day as a follow-up to L's birthday. She has always wanted to eat Peking Duck, and now she has...

They slice up the duck... (poor duck...sorry...and thank you) アヒルちゃんごめんね。。。

First you have Peking Duck crepes with veggies and sauce... 最初の北京ダックはクレープと野菜で

Then they bring Peking duck done another way--we chose pineapple ginger duck... それでパイナップル・ショウガの北京ダックも選んだ。

We couldn't eat it all, so there were leftovers... 全部食べれなかったので残り物を持ち帰った。

And of course, some dessert...for me...デザートお頼んで、美味しかった。
