Vancouver Art Museum・バンクーバー美術館

We went with Y to the Vancouver Art Museum, which was an amazing experience. With half a million pieces on display, there was no way we could do it justice in two hours. Yさんとバンクーバー美術館に訪ねた。初めてで面白いものがいっぱいあって一日があっても足りないと思う。一応２時間ぐらいいろいろゆっくり見れた。入り口でもきれい。。。

入ってからすぐ木造のアートがザーッと並んでいる。The First Nations pieces were amazing.

言葉もない。

世界の面白いもの。バイクも。And they had pieces from all over the world.

車も。This used to be a car--they took the engine out.

仮面も。

これが一番感動したものかも。人類が貝から生まれたときを表しているそう。This is the Raven and the First Men by Bill Reid.

美術館の外でもきれい。Even the outside of the museum was spectacular.

何の動物？What do you see?

鳥居っぽくない？

美術館の近く、平和の公園みたいなところがあった。This is a peace park-type place near the museum.

そうですね。。。 Indeed.

Eugene・ユージーン

We popped down to Eugene for a few days to see some friends and Y kindly joined us. I only seem to have pictures of food. We breakfasted at the Glenwood...a popular hangout close to the University of Oregon.
Yさんの旅にちょっと戻ってしまってごめん。シアトルの後はユージーンにちょっと行った。写真あまり取らなかったけどおいしいワッフルを食べた。Glenwoodというレストランを選んで、オレゴン大学に近いです。

 

Y and I had waffles.
Yさんと私はワッフルを選んだ。

Mine came with eggs and bacon and hers came with fruit and yoghurt. That's why she's thinner than I am!
私は卵を食べて、Yさんは果物とヨーグルト。彼女のほうはやっぱり健康的。

OK, so L had the bacon...
Lさんはベーコンがおいしかったって！

On the way out of town on our last day, we went to the Hideaway Bakery, the best patisserie in Eugene. The pastries are amazing...
最後の日にHideaway Bakeryに行った。ユージーンの一番おいしいパン屋さんです！

And the coffee's not half bad! コーヒーも悪くない。

In an effort to eat more fruit...we shared this...I am sure the caramel is not all that bad for you...
あ。。。これも食べた！果物だから健康的？キャラメルは甘い！！

Boeing・ボーイング

After Seattle, we traveled to the Boeing facility with Y for a tour. You are not allowed to take photos on the tour but the center itself was pretty impressive. Yさんとの旅の話の続きですが、シアトルの後はボーイングでツアーした！　ツアー中の写真は禁止だけどウェルカムセンターでいっぱい撮った。

This is the Dreamlifter--it flies parts of Boeings all over the world.

外で駐車した「ドリームリフター」です。飛行機の部分を運ぶ専用飛行機です。すごいですね。

There are two engines that the client can choose for her/his Boeing:  Rolls Royce or General Electric. I didn't catch the price difference. エンジンはロールスロイス社やゼネラルエレクトリック社しか使わない。どっちを使うか飛行機を注文する方が選ぶのだって。(値段の違いは聞いていない）

The GE engine felt a bit bigger but there was not a lot in it...

両方大きいけどGEのほうがちょっと大きい。

Sitting in a previously functioning cockpit was amazing.

もともとは本当のコックピットだった。

And this is not the best video in the world but it gives you an idea of the area.

あまりいいビデオじゃないけど景色ぐらいは伝えたかった。

Ramen for lunch! ラーメン食べた！

今日、Lさんとバンクーバーに遊びに行った。ランチは長い列が外でザーと並んでいたラーメン屋さん。

 メニューは簡単で雰囲気も面白かった。

 醤油ラーメン大盛りを注文した。

 餃子も注文したけどながーーーーい！

全部おいしかった！

キッシュ・Quiche

Y made quiche while she was here--and not just any old quiche...this was quiche made from scratch! She bought the pie tin, rolling pin, and small weights all the way from Japan to make the crust. Amazing! Yさんがキッシュを作ってくれた！！！最初から最後まで手作りで本当に感動した！今まで意思版おいしかったキッシュだった！

The pie crust was so amazingly delicious...パイクラスも作った！

特別なものを日本から持ってきてくれた。 And I have never seen the little weight things before...

She cooled the crust in the fridge for a while...冷蔵庫で冷やして。。。

Fried up the veggies....野菜を炒めておいて。。。

And pulled out the finished quiche like magic! 最後に出したのは魔法みたい！ Best quiche EVER!

Seattle (3)

シアトルのパイオニーア・スクエアに行った。シアトルはこの方にちなんで名付けられたそうです。While in Seattle we also went to Pioneer Square and saw the bust of the Chief that the city is named after.

And some more totem poles...トーテム・ポールも見れた。

The Crab Pot is a favourite lunch destination of ours...ランチは大好きなクラブ・ポットで。

For the decor...景色が面白くて。。。

The sourdough bread and butter...バターやサワードウで作ったパンもおいしい。

And mostly the crab pots!　でも、カニ、トウモロコシ、ムール、えびなどが最高！

Seattle has some interesting parks...面白い公園も見て。。。

Statues of famous musicians (Jimi Hendrix)...
ジミ・ヘンドリックスの像...

Amazing buildings (is that Chief Seattle?)...すばらしいビルも。

Art installations...美術館もいつか入りたいなー

And a stunning public library!　図書館が感動的。

And finally, Seattle is of course, about coffee!! Here's Seattle's Best right across the street from Starbucks.　シアトルはコーヒーショップが有名で、どこにいってもいっぱいある。シアトルベストとスターバ。

And Starbucks right across from Tully's!　スターバとタリーズ！

We ended up going into Tully's for matcha iced tea and iced coffee drinks!　タリーズに入った！
