先週の土曜日！Last Saturday--Vancouver!

先週の土曜日、友達とバンクーバーの景色を見にいた。監視所（かんしじょ）はハーバーセンターと言うビルの２７階にあります。Last weekend we went up to the Vancouver Lookout in the Harbour Centre in downtown Vancouver. We had great weather so the views were spectacular. This is the lookout building from the ground.

トップにレストランがあるけど行かなかった。
There is a restaurant at the very top but we didn't go that far.

景色すごいでしょう。１００年前にできた郵便局も見られる。右側に見える緑ドームのあるビルです。What a great view! Old Post Office (1910) with the green dome in the right half of the photo.

You can see the bay over the buildings...湾も見える。

きれいでしょう。Such a beautiful city.

ガソリーンスタンド見える？Check out the Chevron filling station on the water.

クルーズをちょっとしたくなってきた。Cruise ships leave from Canada Place.

交通機関いっぱい見ていたもの！There were even helicopters coming and going

Friday!!!金曜日だ！

Ah, Friday. You're here. I was waiting for you all week! I was sick yesterday so am looking forward to a healthy weekend...please let it be so...金曜日がやっと来た！よかった！ずーーーーーと待っていたも！昨日は一日ダウンだったので健康的な週末がほしい！

And before I get too far behind...here are some more shots from the delightful weekend with Eugene friends last weekend...遅くなっているけど先週末のイベントについてもうちょっと書こうと思う。

バンクーバーである友達がトイレを探した。やっと見つけたけどちょっとおしゃれな感じじゃない。面白いのは使うたびに自己洗浄機能が動く。いいね！(経験しなかったけど）　While we were in Vancouver some of the group tried out the self-cleaning toilet facilities. Um...gee...thanks but...

 We headed first to beautiful Gastown, with its sidewalk cafes, hanging bouquets and interesting architecture. 　ガスタウンに行きました。きれいなところで、歩道のカフェや面白いビルがって。

 Gastown is named after Gassy Jack...ガスタウンは「ガシー・ジャック」という人物の名前が付けられている。

 Apparently he told a lot of long-winded stories, hence the name...「ガシー・ジャック」は長い話が好きそうだった。だから「ガシー」のあだ名がついていた。

 Last Saturday was a good day for weddings, parties, and stretched limos apparently...スーパーストレッチリムジンも見た！

 After Gastown we hit The Blarney Stone--a delightful Irish pub with fabulous local beer...ガスタウンの後、アイリッシュパッブに入っておいしいビールを楽しめた！

 ...and even more fabulous shooters! (This is a Burt Reynolds!)　シューターも発見！

And it wouldn't be a pub in Canada if it wasn't showing ice hockey...The Stanley Cup, to be exact.　カナダと言えばホッケーでしょう！これはスタンリーカップで、米、カナダのプロアイスホッケー優勝決定戦です。ファイナルはニュージャージーとロスでロスが買ったと思う。

Back to Richmond! リッチモンド中華街に戻った！

After deciding that the Vancouver Chinatown Night Market was not up to our expectations, we headed over to the Richmond Night Market. バンクーバー中華街の夜祭りにちょっとがっかりしたのでリッチモンドに戻った。やっぱりたくさん食べた！最初は「みっともないドッグ」だって。そんなにみっともなくはないと思った。それともおいしかった。ポテトがついているホットドッグで、ソースがちょっとかけられ過ぎ。まあいいか。。。The first thing we attacked was an Ugly Dog. I didn't think it was that ugly--and it was extremely tasty. Potato on top of a sausage and covered in sauces! So much for healthy eatin'!

Next was some squid...次はイカ。。。

Ugly squid? みっともないイカ？

Then we headed over to sample the dim sum...次は「点心」だって。シュウマイなどが入っていておいしかった。

We were so eager to try it that people started nibbling before I could get my camera out!

写真撮る前にちょっと食べてしまった。

Onto dessert...in the form of a waffle stick! デザートだ！ワッフルがスティックに。

It was fun to watch them being made...作っているところ。

Some customers were brave enough to put cream on top...クリームバージョンもある。

But our Eugene friend decided the creamless caramel version was the way to go. 友達がクリームなしのキャラメルバージョンを注文した。

I was seriously debating trying these role cake things but unfortunately I hit my limit (and stopped eating!)  We will have to go AGAIN! これもデザートケーキみたいなものだった。残念ながらおなかがもういっぱいになってしまった。今度食べてみようと思う！

Vancouver Chinatown Night Market・バンクーバー中華街

We tried out the Richmond Chinatown Night Market a few weeks ago so thought we would drag our Vancouver friends downtown to check out that Chinatown and night market. この間リッチモンド市の中華街に行ってきた。ちょっと小さいと思ったので今回はユージーンの友達とバンクーバーの中華街に行ってみた。 Chinatown was pretty  nice and it was a lovely day to be out in the city.

バンクーバーの中華街が面白い雰囲気。中華風の庭もあって穏やかなところ。We wandered through the serenity of the Dr. Sun Yat Sen garden.

Later that evening we hit the night market.　夜祭りに行ってみた

First we tried the fish balls...they were good...from what I remember (there was a lot of food eaten that night) 友達がフィッシュ・ボールを食べてみた。ちょっと辛いので悪くなかった。

We checked out Korean Chijimi...which was good--next time we try it in Korea!

チジミもあったけどちょっと違う感じ。

Dorayaki was next on the menu...どら焼きのようなものもあった。

Also good, but a bit on the small side so we had to have a few. 小さいけどおいしかった。

Yakisoba was...well...yakisoba-ish...kind of...but tasty. 焼きそばのようなものも食べた。ちょっと。。。

And we ended with a sushi hand roll. It was surprisingly good. Unfortunately that was the end of the night market--not as big or interesting as we would have hoped...so we hit the other night market afterwards (more to come) 最後は手巻き寿司。これは意外とおいしかった。バンクーバーの中華街より祭りが非常に小さかったので友達を連れてリッチモンドに戻った。別の投稿になるけど。。。

今日のテーマ：電話！Today's theme--phones!

今日、偶然この二つの歌を聞いた。両方が電話と愛のテーマで、面白かった。 Today I heard two songs that made me smile. They were both about telephones and people dealing with relationship issues.

The first is Maroon 5's "Payphone". He is calling his girlfriend/ex-girlfriend from a payphone, using all his money, and trying to figure out what went wrong in their relationship. Apologies for the colourful language.  これは公衆電話を使ってかの字に電話しようとしている歌。彼がが全部の小銭を使って、もう一度この関係を治そうとしている。(よくない言葉が入っているので英会話授業で使えないけど。。。まあ。。。おトン名であれば使えるかも。。。日常会話に出ているもの！）  "I'm at a payphone trying to call home, all of my change I spent on you." (In 10 years this song will make no sense--there's barely any payphones left now!)

The next one is"Hello Hello"by Fabian Buch. A guy is ignoring phone calls from his ex-girlfriend who wants to get back together but has mistreated him so badly, he refuses to pick up. And when he does, he says it's a wrong number. これは恋愛関係が終わって、彼はもう電話に出たくなくなった。面白いね。 "You can keep calling back. You can call me a thousand times and I will keep saying 'you've got the wrong number'. You broke my heart too many times for me to say hello."

Ah, the things that keep me entertained. 人生はやっぱりいろいろあって面白いね。。。Do you have any songs about phones?  電話についての歌、教えて！

Burt Reynolds, we love you! バート・レイノルズ大好き！

This past weekend I fell in love with Burt Reynolds.  Yes, it is a fabulous tale of romance and love at first sip. No, not the 1980s American movie star. The love I talk of runs far deeper.
週末にバート・レイノルズと恋に落ちた！バートといえば1980年代の有名なアメリカ俳優のことだと思われるでしょう。

While walking in Vancouver we stopped for a light beverage at a delightful Irish pub. One beverage turned into two and we tried out a shooter called--for no reason that anyone knows--Burt Reynolds. It is equal parts Spiced Rum and Butter Ripple Schnapps and is absolutely heavenly. Needless to say we now have the ingredients at home and they go down quite well with some ice. Cheers, Burt!　　実は、私が大好きになったのは違うもの。バンクーバーのあるアイリッシュ・パブで発見した飲み物について話している。アルコールがたっぷりはいている飲み物でとてもおいしかった。なぜバートの名前がついているか分からないけど家でも飲んでいる！ラム酒とバタースコッチ酒が入っていて、氷も入れればさっぱりとしている！バートに乾杯！

ユージーンの友達・Friends from Eugene

This past weekend, a couple of friends from Eugene snuck across the border and surprised me with a three-day visit. It was absolutely magnificent so I will be updating the blog with weekend festivities over the next couple of days. For now, I am exhausted and catching up on work, but suffice to say it was a fabulous few days and we ate a LOT of cereal... ;-)  (they are cereal addicts)

先週末ユージーンの友達がカナダに遊びに来た。超楽しかったけどやっぱり疲れた。今日は月曜日の分の仕事もやってちょっと眠くなった。今週のブログは多分週末のイベントについて似なると思う。今日はもうかけないけどシリアルの写真を投稿します。なぜかと言うと、友達はシリアルが大好きです。変だね！
